The REAL Beginnings programme is a modified form of the Making it REAL (Raising Early Achievement in Literacy) programme (Nutbrown, Hannon & Morgan, 2005), developed by the National Children’s Bureau (NCB) for use with families and their children aged from around 12-months. The programme consists of a series of home visits and group events, delivered by early years practitioners over a year-long period, to help families to support their children’s development of pre-literacy skills. In this under-2s age group, the focus is on Communication and language, Books, Mark-making, and Songs, rhymes and storytelling.
